Born to Not Shop–Absolutely

Have I mentioned how much I hate to shop? If I already have, please bear with me.  I hate it.  I mean really, really hate it.  Except when I am shopping for sweet Isabella- but that really doesn't count.  Or when I am on vacation shopping at cute boutiques and overpriced souvenir shops. That doesn't count either.

I mean when you have to get food to eat, or Christmas lights the day before the big party you are hosting. Or something cute to wear to the big Christmas party you are hosting. Or gifts. I am a cheerful giver. Love to give the gifts. Hate to shop for the gifts.

There are few absolutes in this world. It will rain right after you wash the car or dog. And you will forget your umbrella. And it is dress up night at the symphony. Not talking about those absolutes. I am talking about shopping absolutes.

I absolutely will not find a close parking place. The cart return will be miles away.

It absolutely will be raining when I get there, or when I leave the store headed for my car parked in another city.  I absolutely will leave my umbrella in the car.  Or at the last store.

Whatever I am shopping for will absolutely not be at the first store I go to.

When I do find it, it will absolutely be the wrong size and/or color.  And color is very important.  Only one shade of blue, that you almost never can find, looks half-decent on me.  No other color. None. Nada. That is why I almost always wear black. Doesn't look good on me, but is safe.

I absolutely will look ridiculous in any of the trendy styles. Even safe ones, like those cute long, skinny scarves of a couple of years ago.  Made me look 18 inches tall. Like a little pygmy.

I absolutely will lose my list about half-way through the Christmas shopping trip.  So, I will absolutely buy the same gift twice.  It will go into the return pile.  I absolutely will miss the return date.  And it will be re-gifted.  Hopefully not to the person I gave it to originally…blah, blah, blah.  Never done that before.  Well, I think I have, but the recipient was much to nice to mention it.  I have a kind and thoughtful family – most of the time!  The good news is that if I get this re-gifted gift back this year my memory is so bad I will not remember giving it last year.  So there.  Problem is not a problem anymore.

Guess I had better get off this computer.  The Christmas party has not changed dates, it is still tomorrow night and I have much yet to do.  Including taking back the cute little Christmas trees I bought at Wal-Mart last night to go on either side of our front door.  Lighted and everything.  Even in their own cute pots.  And, I got the last ones available- the ones on display, so I knew the lights worked.  Remember when I said cute “little” Christmas trees?  Well, they look TINY on my front porch.  Pitiful.  And, do you know how much traffic there will be at Wal-Mart today?  Humm, maybe they would look nice in the back yard….

Until next time…enjoy a first birthday photo of the Princess taken by W. June Photography.  Real cuteness, right?

The Twelve Days of Thanksgiving

Are you a subscriber to Pinterest?  If not, let me tell you about it.  Pinterest is a free website that is like a virtual bulletin board or virtual bookmark tool.  I have hundreds of bookmarks on my computer, which are kind of useless because of the volume.  Well, Pinterest let’s you develop categories and you can add a photo that automatically links back to the original site, of items you want to keep handy.  You can also search on Pinterest for absolutely anything and “repin” the item to your boards.   I know I sound like an advertisement for Pinterest, but I just want to share with you this terrific site.  Click on the Big P below and it will take you to my page:

big-p-button

Which brings me to today’s project.  I found this on Pinterest and decided to make a few adjustments and create a little Thankfulness Jar for a my sisters, mom and aunt.  Each jar has  little slips of paper for each family member to write what you are thankful for each day.  Then, on Thanksgiving, empty the jar and share your “thankfulness” with the entire family.

Thanksgiving Jar

I added Stampin’ Up! Spice Cake Fabric, some tomato twine and cut out some leaves from the Gently Falling stamp set.  About 10 minutes each jar and it can be used every year.  I just kinda love it!

We are getting ready for Thanksgiving next week and Isabella’s first birthday party.  She was here this weekend and is walking everywhere.  She looks like a little monster holding her arms straight out for balance.  I have a lot to do to get ready for the party and Thanksgiving Dinner for about 35 and I am a little under the weather, so it will be a few days before I can get back to it.   In the meantime, I can get a lot done on the computer printing cupcake toppers, banner, treat toppers, etc.  Here’s the invite that we sent that was created for us by 3PeasPrints, a terrific shop on Etsy.  I really wanted to make it myself on Stampin’ Up!’s My Digital Studio software, but I am just not quite there yet with my expertise.  Maybe next year.

We are so thankful for this little miracle baby that it is only fitting that her first birthday theme is one of thanks.

I hope your holiday plans are moving along nicely.

Little Lamb

The little sweetie and her parents had planned to visit here this past weekend, but plans were changed because she began running a very high fever….and needed her Mimi and Poppy.  So we abandoned all plans for the weekend and made our way to Franklin to help out.  We took her to the doctor on Friday who said she didn’t see anything major- perhaps a cold was coming on and to continue with the baby fever reducer and call if…..you know the drill.  And sure enough, her fever went away and all was well, except that she had her days and nights mixed up….so that is where Mimi and Poppy stepped up.  Fortunately, she didn’t know she was sick (except for a lack of appetite) and played hard with us.

She’s walking a little bit and probably will be running all over the place on her first birthday in three weeks.

Poppy took her for a couple of stroller trips in the beautiful fall weather of Middle Tennessee and she loved it.  Here she is all bundled up….our little lamb.

Stampin’ Up! Louisville Regional–How Fun is That?!!!

My sweet friend and my upline Lisa and I attended the Stampin’ Up! full day Regional Event in Louisville, Kentucky the last weekend in October and it was wonderful!  Our trip was so fun and we saw some amazing color on the trip.  God is truly in the details.

The demo demonstrations were awesome and I truly appreciate the time that my fellow demonstrators gave to teach us new tips and techniques.  And the home office gals- well what can I say.  Terrific as usual.

One of the traditions at all Stampin’ Up! events is the “Swap.”  Many of the attendees make a number of “swap” cards or other items and swap with other attendees…well, you get the picture.  And here is a photo of the two tags I made for the swap.

I made about 75 of the first tag as my general swap and then around 10 of the more detailed tag.  Both tags use Creative Elements and Established Elegance and on the general swap I used the fabulous Morning Mocha Specialty Designer Series Paper.  I had so much fun making these and can’t wait to get started on my Leadership swap item that will be held in January in San Antonio.

Regional Swap Tag-1Regional Swap Tag - Enhanced2

AND, at each we could add our swaps to be taken back and shared with the Home Office staff.  From those the Stampin’ Up! staff attendees chose their two favorites and announced the winners at the end of the day.  Boy was I honored when Bonnie Thurber called my name and flashed a photo of my more detailed tag on the big screen!  What an honor when she said that one reason they chose my tag was it looked like one that Shelli would make.  (Shelli Gardner is the co-founder of Stampin’ Up!).  I managed to make it to the stage to receive a beautiful card and gift certificate.  I absolutely loved the tag and am so pleased that others did too!

Well, not gonna toot my horn again for awhile.  But I had to share that with you.

We spent the weekend in Franklin with a little “under the weather” sweetie.  More about her on my next post.

Blessings to all,

Diane

Freshly Made Sketches # 4 and Bella Talks!!!

It’s time for another challenge at Freshly Made Sketches and I just love this one.  I LOVE making tags and bookmarks.  Also love making ATC’s – Artist Trading Cards.  These little work areas suit me just fine.  I have always been fond of miniatures and have a good size collection of miniature houses.  I built a dollhouse from scratch one football season and loved the tiny furniture and accessories. Here’s the sketch:
FMS Sketch 4
So, I really enjoyed making this tag card.  I used Soft Suede as the main color and the extra fabulous Beau Chateau Designer Series Paper, both from Stampin’ Up! of course.  Did a little fussy-cutting and sponging.  Happy camper here.  And here’s my card:
FMS4 Beaut Chateau Tag Card
And, since I haven’t updated you on sweet Bella lately- take a look at a video of her saying Da-Da that we took the last time we had her for the weekend.  She really gets into it…and then gets distracted by the puppy.
All supplies by Stampin’ Up!.  I am also submitting it for this week's Way To Use It Challenge # 342 at Splitcoaststampers. Enjoy!

Laundry Day

Most of my life Monday has been the first work day of the week, laundry day and my least favorite day. But, since I retired I try to keep Monday free from ANY chores, meetings or busywork.  It is MY day to enjoy NOT having to get up at 5:30 am and go to work.  I may have mentioned this before.
So, Tuesday has become Laundry Day.  Load after load of washing, folding, putting away.  And every other Tuesday I change the sheets on the beds, so there are a couple of extra loads.  Here’s how I do it:  I strip the beds and wash the linens first.  I put the clean folded sheets on the bed.  I start my clothes and as they come out of the dryer, I put them on the bed with the folded sheets.  Sometimes I fold the perma press items and just dump the rest.  My intention is to get in there around 3 or so, fold and put away, make the bed and be ready for the evening.  But noooooooooooo, that won’t happen.  At 10 pm when I head down the hall to get my bath, there on the bed will be the clean folded sheets and a HUGE pile of clean clothes everywhere.  The perma press is “hanging” on the bed posts, door frames and what have you.  Today will not be any different because I decided to get my challenge card done.  And I adapted it to work for two challenges.

First, the terrific KAPOW Kreative Challenge #2 over at Carrie Gaskin’s awesome blog, Artistic Avenger.  It was a sketch challenge this week- here’s the cute sketch.  I just love it and knew right away what I wanted to do.Kapow-Kreative-Challenge-Sketches-KKC02-231x300
But before I started I ran over to Splitcoast Stampers and checked out the color challenge for today.  The colors fit perfectly for my card:  Cherry Cobbler, Pool Party, Early Espresso and I added Naturals Ivory for my neutral.  Put first ink to the snowman image from Snow Much Fun, did a little fussy-cutting (love, love to fussy-cut) ran the Perfect Pennant die through my Big Shot, added a few more elements and Voila! here ya go…..
KKC02 CC342 Snow Much Fun

And finally, I am going to submit to the So Shelli monthly challenge for September.  Shelli Gardner, co-founder of Stampin' Up! is looking for Christmas cards this month.  I think this one fits- don't you?

All supplies are Stampin’ Up!  I hope this day has been grand for you.

A Perfect Princess!!!

I just got the coolest email from sweet Rita, one of the terrific designers on the new Freshly Made Sketch Challenge blog. I was chosen a Perfect Princess for my Up In The Air Birthday card submission this week!!!  How neat is that!  You can see my card on the following post and you can check out all the Princesses and the Queen of Clean, plus many other gorgeous creations here at Freshly Made Sketches.
Thank you ladies for your hard work putting this site together and for all your encouragement.

Freshly Made Birthday

I have been working on this card for days…and I think I went a little overboard.  I am really a Clean and Simple gal, so when I do make a more intense card I just can’t stop with the embellishments and textures.  And this card has it all!  The image panel looked a little plain, so I fringed the top and bottom.  Used the new cute Houndstooth embossing folder from Stampin’ Up! for the first time and cut some little buttons  for the corner.  Then, since I was on a roll, I ran the sentiment through the crimper.  I probably used 50 Stampin’ dimensionals – everything is “popped up.”  But, after all that, I really like this card- it will be perfect for a “little” friend birthday.  Here’s the sketch we were given for the Freshly Made Sketches Challenge # 3:

Super Hero–Yep, that’s me!!! And I am honored!

KKC-Superhero

A few days ago I submitted a card to the brand new terrific KA-POW Kreative Challenge hosted by one of my stamping heroes, Artistic Avenger Carrie Gaskin.  And this morning, I was tickled to see that I had been named the very first “Super Hero” for that card.  Wowza!  You can find my card on this post.  Here is the cute badge that I get to display on my sidebar.  Click on it to go to Carrie’s blog- you will find totally awesome creations and great stamping and papercrafting tips.  Thanks, Carrie for this honor.

And, here is a new picture of Isabella with her Poppy.  Wonder who’s the happiest in this picture?

TBT- Autumn Days

Here's a rerun from three years ago today.  And even though most of the Stampin' Up! products have retired, it is still one of my all time favorite cards- especially the color combination.  Fall is my favorite season- because of the beautiful colors and the crisp "football" weather.  Enjoy!

Three challenge cards this weekend….pretty awesome for me!  A terrific bunch of fellow Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators started a new challenge blog called Freshly Made Sketches.  I was out of pocket last week so I missed the first one, but hope to be able to play often from now on.
With fall in the air, I’ve started thinking about my favorite holiday, Thanksgiving, so I decided to pull out my Autumn Days stamp set and use my favorite fall colors to make week #2 challenge card.  I used Cajun Craze, More Mustard and Concord Crush along with Naturals Ivory and the brand new rectangle frame embossing folder and also the lattice folder.  Did a little fussy-cutting and added ribbon and twine.  Hope you like.

Stamping 411 Saturday Sketch Challenge and My Crafty Picks

It’s been awhile since I have participated in challenges and now I have done two in two days!  Here is my card for Stamping 411’s Saturday Sketch Challenge #221.  Participating in challenges is a good way to get your creative mojo running and I have enjoyed every minute of it.  Here’s the sketch:

and here’s my card.  I really don’t “do” Halloween, but I loved the owl image in this cute Stampin’ Up! Dark and Dreary stamp set, so I purchased the My Digital Studio digital stamp set just to get this little owl.  The set also comes with the cute sentiment, a raven, spider and a chandelier.  I am kinda addicted to the little rolled roses….tutorial this week, I promise.  Used that cute oval frame embossing folder again along with a couple of images from the Creative Elements set, some Basic Jewel rhinestones and a black pearl (colored with a marker).  The lace is from last year’s Holiday Mini.

Happy Halloween - Owl

Fellow stamper and Stampin’ Up! demonstrator Tiffany Bauer hosts a terrific blog, My Crafty World, and each week chooses stamping/papercraft creations from around the blogosphere for inclusion in her Sunday My Crafty Picks.  I was so excited to get an email from her this week choosing my Ka-Pow card (in the post below) as one of her picks this week.   Check out the cute little badge on my sidebar.   You can check out her blog and other picks at My Crafty World.  I hope you take a look…she’s terrific.

As always, you can purchase all the product used in this card at my Stampin’ Up! website.  Just click here:

KA–POW a Brand.New.Terrific.Challenge.

The Ultimate Artistic Avenger, aka Carrie Gaskin, one of my very favorite paper artists and sister Stampin’ Up! demonstrator has started a new challenge for her stamping followers.  The KA-POW challenge will be issued every other Tuesday for now and you can read more right here.

KA-POW Kreative Challenge # 1 is a very cool color challenge.  Here are the challenge colors:

Kapow-Kreative-Challenge-KKC011-300x199 - colors

And, here’s my card using an awesome new stamp set from the new Stampin’ Up! Idea Book and Catalog.  Creative Elements has so many great images- the cards practically make themselves!  I used all the colors above plus some Naturals White, a few Basic Rhinestones and Pearls, the Perfect Polka Dots textured embossing folder and the oval from the new Designer Frames folder duo.  And, I love, love this card.  I did a lot of distressing in honor of Carrie’s style, and rolled a few corners.  I hope it makes her smile a bit.  (Don’t you love these little rolled flowers?  They are too easy…I will tell you how next time.)

I will be back soon with news about Isabella! and our marvelous Alaskan cruise.

Kindness Matters

I could send this card to thousands of people and I’ll bet you could too.  I have been blessed so many times with the kindness of others.  God has put wonderful people in my life- I wish I could list them all.  Some of these wonderful people are kind enough to ready this blog.  This card is for you.

I altered yesterday’s CAS challenge sketch and used the gorgeous color combo in today’s Color Challenge.  AND, found a reason to use the cutest and sweetest new Stampin’ Up! set Kindness Matters.  AND, if that isn’t enough, I made my very first Gerbera daisy from my brand new Flower, Daisies #2 Bigz Die.  This is absolutely “to die for.”

Kindness Matters - Gerbera Daisy - 2

We had a wonderful weekend in Franklin with Isabella and her parents.  Growing. Like. A. Weed.  Here’s the little princess crawling down the hall with her Poppy:

So sad to see Scripture Stampers end, but look at Isabella at 8 months!

July was our last club meeting of the Scripture Stampers.  I loved every minute with these wonderful gals.  We laughed, created and ate marvelous food.  But, we will start back in October and I can’t wait.  Here are the Scripture cards we made in our 6 months together.  They are all A2 and fit into the little box and all use Springtime Vintage Designer Series Paper and colors.

A couple of weeks ago our sweet Princess turned 8 months old.  What a precious gift from God…grandchildren are just the best.  Here are a few photos at 8 months- she still likes her Poppy best.  Oh, well…I really like him too!!!

In With The New…..

from the 2011-2012 Idea Book and Catalog that went live on July 1.  One of my very favorite new stamp sets in the catty is Field Flowers.  I found this card by Mindy Backes and just had to use these colors and First Edition papers for my easel card thank you.  I loved the way it turned out.  The new In Color Calypso Coral saw ink for the first time as well as the new Lace Ribbon Border Punch.  I did a lot of sponging with Blushing Bride, added new ruffled ribbon, black striped grosgrain ribbon, some black pearls and a little crown embellishment.  Can’t wait to make this again!

First Fourth

A short little post today so I can include these cute, cute photos of Isabella on her First Fourth.  Actually, the photos were taken on the day before since she and her family left to go back to Franklin that night.  We had a nice photo shoot, but getting a smiley baby picture is hard work.  She senses the camera before she sees it and intently stares at it refusing to smile.  So to get a good smiley shot, I have to work really hard.  Her daddy can usually get a smile out of her- so I called for him to help.  Here’s my favorite:

First Fourth

And, here’s how we got there:

Needless to say we had a wonderful holiday weekend.  And I hope yours was wonderful too.

Bella at 6 months - What a Blessing!!!!!

It is so hard to believe that our Isabella is 6 months old! She is happy, healthy and a sweet little baby. I am loving every minute of being a grandmother (Mimi) and Bob is a little silly over being “Poppy.” Who knew what an exciting adventure this would be? Here’s a few photos of Isabella at 6 months:

We are on the road to Franklin today to spend a couple of days- then on Saturday we will be bringing the little precious back home with us for a few days. I can’t wait to get her all to myself. Just left Leiper's Fork and couldn't resist snapping this quick photo. All we need is Andy and Barney along with Bo and Luke. I just love Williamson County, Tennessee.

'Til next time....Blessings.

Hello Doilies Sneak Peak

I am still here waiting, waiting and waiting for Mr. Brown (UPS) to arrive with my demonstrator copy of the new Stampin’ Up! Idea Book and Catalog that goes live to customers on July 1.  In addition to the catalog, I will be getting the new In Colors and a couple of new stamp sets with this ship, so I decided to bide my time by getting a card ready to go with items from the new catalog.

So, in just a little while, I will be posting my first card using brand new items- it is an absolute case of a card on the cover of our demonstrator monthly magazine.

And, here it is!!!  Thank you Mr. Brown ….

Delicate Doilies - Stampin Success case

I used the current Curly Cute set and the new Delicate Doilies Set, along with brand new In Color Wisteria Wonder Textured Card Stock which looks great with the Pumpkin Pie, Pretty In Pink and Whisper White papers.  Then, as the terrific focal point, a Melon Mambo doily die cut from the to die for Flirtatious Specialty Designer Series Paper.  Add a couple of rhinestones (oops! forgot those before I photographed)  and a little white Baker’s Twine and you have a gorgeous card- suitable for most any occasion.

‘Til next time….

Scripture Stampers–Something Old and Something New

Last night was our May stamp club meeting (I had to delay one week so we could visit our sweet Isabella) and the Scripture Stampers were in full force.  We made three cute projects and I loved each one.  Linda was our hostess and she chose Colossians 4:2 – the definitive verse about prayer.  I was not surprised because Linda is a dedicated prayer warrior…you absolutely want her on your team!  The scripture card I designed that will go into our sweet little scripture box used our theme designer paper, Springtime Vintage (old) along with Baja Breeze, Not Quite Navy, the Top Note die and Framed Tulips embossing folder.  We all love projects made with the Big Shot.

I always try to make a little treat for the members each month, but yesterday I was stumped on ideas and could not decide what to do.  Then I had a brainstorm and made a quick trip to Dollar General and bought a bunch of 3.5 X 5 inch acrylic frames and got to work.  I knew I wanted to use the brand spankin’ new Flower Fest set from the Summer Mini and the new embossing powder on a project, so I got busy embossing and punching and cutting.  I didn’t get everything done before the gals arrived, so assembling the elements became our first project.  The sentiments are from two sets that are on the Last Chance list (tear) – Sense of Time and Simple Friendship.  Although they will be gone, they will not be forgotten.  The final project used all current products, including the fabulous Elegant Bouquet embossing folder and had a little twist.  After the image was stamped, we sprayed it with spray adhesive, covered with a used dryer sheet, then covered with Dazzling Diamonds (gorgeous glitter), cut the dryer sheet to size and popped up on our card.  Pretty, pretty.  Who knew?

Take a look-see- and as always, you can shop Stampin’ Up! 24/7 on my website here:

I am sitting here waiting not so patiently for Mr. Brown (UPS) to roll up with my expedited Stampin’ Up! order that will also have my copy of the new Idea Book and Catalog that goes live on July 1.  I’ve been to the door at least ten times…it’s on the truck and out for delivery and I am hoping he gets to us earlier than his usual last delivery of the day.  I know that patience is a virtue- just not today!

Thanks for visiting and before you go say hi! to sweet Isabella- all dressed up this week:
