WSC93 Trendy Forest Friend

It’s Friday!  Weekend on the way!  Even though I am retired and now a full-time homemaker, I still look forward to the weekends.  I am always excited about the Sunday morning message and having the freedom to worship our Savior without penalty or threat.  Our God is an awesome God, He reigns!!!

I am just crazy about these two stamp sets from Stampin’ Up!- Trendy Trees and Forest Friends.  They are among the least expensive sets, but I knew right away they would get a lot of inkin’ from me.  This card is for Beate’s Fresh and Fun Weekend Sketch Challenge and I chose to use  four of the new In Colors.  I didn’t think much of the colors until I made a few cards and now I think they are terrific.  Soft Suede is a real keeper and Bermuda Bay- yumm, yumm!

Thoughts and Prayers Gift Set

One of my new favorite Stampin’ Up! sets is the very special Thoughts and Prayers set.  One of my dear friends asked me if I would make a gift card set for a silent auction recently.  I was thrilled to be asked and honored to participant in the annual Morgan McCarty Scholarship Foundation fundraiser.  I thought of the beautiful tree image in this set and decided it would be perfect as a symbol of hope and renewal.  So I made this cute tote and 8 cards- four with Thank You and four with Thinking of You for the sentiments.  These were so easy to make I am going to work on several sets just to have available when you need a quick gift for someone special.

Thy Word In Color

I hosted my first official workshop as a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator this week and had five sweet and fun gals come to my home for a play date – Amy, Linda, Dianne, Judy and Colleen.  When I was working on the demo cards earlier in the week, I decided that a scripture card would always be one of the sample cards for all my workshops.  Whatever talent I may have comes from the master Creator and I want to praise Him in all that I do- and that includes teaching others.  I’ve used this verse from Psalms on other cards, but as I was “building” this card it immediately came to mind.  The sketch is also a near catty case.

I also used some of the awesome new In Colors.  I wasn’t sure that I was going to like them at first, but fell in love with them after this card.  I made a little easel to go on the back so that the card is free-standing when not in my Scripture box.  I also highlighted the daisies with a white gel pen.  When I finished I was worried that it may be too aggressive for virgin stampers- but I knew that these gals were already very creative and that they would enjoy a little challenge at the end of the evening.  And they did a terrific job on this card.

Bible Verse In ColorsBible Verse In Colors close up

This little easel was so easy to make.  The card is A2, front only.  I cut the cardstock 3.75 X 5 and scored the long end at 1”.  I measured 1.25’ from the top of the card and drew a line with a pencil from side to side.  Then folded on the score line and attached along the line (centered on the back) with sticky strip.  The same formula would work for any size card.

Pocket Silhouettes and Big Shot!

Whoo-hoo, I got my Big Shot this week and just love it!  I already had a few dies that I was using in my CB, but I am excited about being able to use such a vast array of elements in the Big Shot and not be limited to cardstock, paper and lite chipboard.  Also got the Little Leaves die- a whoppin’ $5.50 for this too cute die that I know I will use over and over again.

Here are a couple of cute CAS (Clean and Simple) cards that I made this week using the very versatile Pocket Silhouettes set.  What great images for making notecard sets!  You will also see those cute Big Shot leaves on one of the cards.  Check out the score lines on the bottom of the Thinking of You card.  So easy, but so elegant, I think.

What a Weekend!!! CC227 – Lavender Essence of Love

I am still on a high from this weekend’s classes with Michelle Zindorf.  For those of you who aren’t familiar with Michelle, she is the brayering master and was in Tennessee this weekend for a beginner and an advanced class on this technique.  Brayering is layering inks to create backgrounds and scenes and the Gang of Four, Leisa Jane, Cleo, Lisa and me headed off to the Tennessee River to get some learnin’.  I’m gathering photos and hopefully can get them posted in a day or so.  You can see Michelle’s fabulous work and wonderful tutorials here.

Here is my first semi-original card using this technique.  The SCS Color Challenge today spotlighted Lavender Lace, Barely Banana, Going Grey and Basic Black and White.  I used the banana and lavender to create my sky, the lavender for one mountain and the gray for the other.  The grassy area uses a little olive, gray and yellow.  I added a little dimension to the flowers with a white gel pen, then stamped that pretty floral at the top in eggplant.  The main panel started out white.  I am pleased with the result and amazed at how quickly it came together.  I can’t wait to try another one.

I hope your weekend was as grand as mine and that this week will be a blessing to you,

Inspired Butterfly Birthday - TLC228

Hello all, I know I promised to post more often, but I just haven’t found the time to do a challenge lately- until today and I just couldn’t resist.  The Technique Lovers Challenge today was to try a new fold from Penny Wessenauer and it really looked interesting.  Penny was so gracious to share her template with us which you can find here along with many other wonderful tutorials.

One of my dear stampin’ friends has a birthday this week and these are the hardest cards to make.  First, you want it to be special for a special friend; then, it must be outstanding because that friend is also a stamper!  And finally, you know she will display the card- so there is even more pressure.  This stand up card was just perfect along with my very best and favorite Designer Paper from Stampin’ Up and a little silver bling.  I used white shimmery metallic paper and clear embossed the image and the punched butterflies.   I love how it turned out and the back is as pretty as the front, don’t you think?

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend.  Ours was quiet, but we did enjoy a great visit from our son Scott and attended an awesome church service.

Breezy Asian Love – NEW BLOG LOOK -LSC225/CC223

We’ve had another busy week and I haven’t had a chance to spend much time in my craft room.  My hubby is the coach of my great-nephew’s All-Star baseball team and they have played every night.  I’ve also been working on some church projects- what can I say? - I LOVE being retired!!!  And, as you might have noticed, I have changed the look on my blog and would love to know what you think of it.  I am still fine tuning and would love your suggestions.

I’ve decided that SU!’s Parisian Breeze DSP is my all time favorite and it is being retired, so I have stocked up for the future and used a little slice of it on today’s challenge card.  It’s a two-fer, sort of.  Today’s Limited Supply Challenge was to use stamps with a different language in our design to give our cards an International Flair.  Also, I thought Tuesday’s Color Challenge sounded interesting - Breezy Ruby Whispers- so I thought I would combine the challenges.  My sweet DIL Jennifer is from Shanghai and I was glad to get to use a sentiment from an old SU! set called Kanji, along with the pretty retired set Brocade Basics.  I heat embossed the brocade image with a new to me embossing powder from American Craft’s Zing collection which is very close to the Ruby Red color.  I was so lucky to win an American Craft’s package in a Stampin’ Out Alzheimer’s drawing that included a set of embossing powders and two marvelous stamp sets.  It is just too cool to support such a worthy cause and get free stuff too!

Joy and Happiness Anniversary – CAS19

It’s a quiet and rainy Monday here in Jackson and I am spending the day in my craft room, or in the “bunker” as my hubby and son call it.  My space is a small two room area off the dining room with shelves and a L-shaped craft table.  It has a window and pretty good lighting.  We haven’t found out the original purpose of the previous owners, but it is absolutely perfect for my papercrafts.

CAS19 Joy and Happiness Dryer SheetI had a marvelous day last Friday.  Two great friends from church, Marie and Pamela, came over to learn how to make cards.  I came up with a few projects and we spent the day laughing, sharing and creating.  What a blessing to have such good friends!  They are certainly a gift from God.

So, back to Monday and the Clean and Simple SCS sketch challenge that you can see here.  I pulled out one of my first Stampin’ Up sets and used the dryer sheet technique that my great friend and demo Lisa taught me last year and made this simple anniversary card for my nephew and his wife-Nathan and Amber.  It was so pretty and so easy I made four of them in just under an hour.  How’s that for simple?

I hope your week is off to a wonderful start!  Our little 7-8 year old All Star baseball team play every night this week.  My sweet little great-nephew Anthony is on the team and my hubby is a coach- so I will be traveling to the ball park to help cheer them on.

Blessings,

Diane

Family Memories- Send A Memory

What a wonderful challenge on the Stampin’ Out Alzheimer’s website this week sponsored by Clear and Simple Stamps.  I just purchased a 5X5 mini album yesterday and can't wait to add some memories to give to my mother-in-law (age 89) who is suffering from this horrible condition. In the meantime, here is a single page with a little frame easel (how clever!) and an envelope made of coordinating paper.  I will be sending this to her this week and on the back I have listed our names.

This is my family- hubby, two sons and DIL. MIL only recognizes her son (my hubby) every now and then-and me occasionally, but isn't sure of who we really are. Very sad, but we are grateful that she is physically healthy. She is with us right now and we enjoy every minute with her.

In Everything…1 Thess. 5:18

I love this verse because we can be thankful in every situation- thankful for the love and care of our Savior and thankful for our friends and family.  This is a 4X6 card to fit in my Scripture box.  The sketch is for a challenge for Stampin’ Out Alzheimer’s – a May project spearheaded by Jen Tapler and Susanna Boyd that raised over $6K in the campaign – donations by stamper’s and scrapper’s all over the web world.  There were challenges and giveaways all month long for members.  I am so proud to have stumbled upon this wonderful event.  Here’s my Taylored Expressions sponsored sketch challenge card:

Alice, How Does Your Garden Grow? CPCM-NTYW04

If you haven’t visited Christian Paper Crafts Magazine yet, I encourage you to go straight to this site- right now!  Cindy Coutts and her team have put together an awesome site that allows Christian women to share their stories of faith and share their creative gifts.  You will be inspired by the Bible Studies and reflections in the community.

The site is just beginning its 4th week so I’ve decided to try and catch up on the challenges so far.  The New To You Wednesday challenge for 5-6-09 was to use paper piecing in our creations.  I love “dressing” my stamp characters and this cute garden Hanna was just perfect.  So I made this card for my great Christian friend Alice’s birthday, an outdoor gal and she and hubby Steve are about the only folks I know that are true farmers.  It is such a treat to visit them and see the livestock, gardens, the lake with ducks and fish- so delightful!

This card is a case of a creation I saw Stampin’ with DiI didn’t use the cute apron fold, but did duplicate her design- just couldn’t improve on it!  Hope you like it.

Women to Women: Sharing Jesus

I have discovered the most wonderful blog created by Diane Noble, Women to Women: Sharing Jesus. I first noticed the badge on my great stampin' friend Judy Roxema's blog, Joy in a Jar. Diane, along with several other Godly women, share personal and teaching devotionals for the Christian woman. Please take a look- you will be blessed.

Judy and Deann Oliver aka The Little Inker have honored me with the "Exalting Christ Blog Award" and I humbly thank them for this honor. I will proudly display it in a sidebar.

WTW-Blog-Award-5

"The Exalting Christ Blog Award" is given to bloggers who consistently exalt the name of Christ on their blogs. What a joy to see crafters blend their passion for Christ and paper crafting. This award is given to bloggers who share Christ through their posts or through the design of their artwork. We are commanded in Scripture to be 'salt and light' sharing the Good News of Jesus no matter where we are (Matthew 5:13-16). This award is just a way members of Women to Women: Sharing Jesus can say thanks for exalting Christ with us!" We are asked to "pass it on" to others who share our passion for Christ.

I am awarding this honor to some of my favorite folks in the stamping and blog worlds and fellow Divine Design Challenge stampers.

1. Maria - Joyful Stamper

2. Silke - My Life

3. Lori - Make a Difference

4. Leanne - Wee Inklings

5. Jami - Stamp Happy with Sgt Stamper

Rules:
Post the blog award in a regular post on your blog with the explanation, including the original link to WTW and the rules for passing the award along
1. Name five people to whom you want to offer this award and link to their blogs. The blogs need to obviously exalt Christ in some manner.
2. Contact the bloggers you have named to let them know they can pick up their blog award from you.
3. Invite them to permanently display the WTW blog badge and/or the award on their blogs. The badge can be obtained on the
WTW site
."

Thank you again Judy and Diane! I am looking forward to sharing the "Good News" with all who take the time to visit.

Father’s Day 2009 – WT217 Kool Kraft

I can’t believe it has been so long since I’ve posted!  We’ve been out of town a lot visiting family and such and just been busy, busy, busy.  I have been making cards and was excited to see that the Ways to Use It challenge today on SCS was to use one of my favorites- Kraft cardstock.  Kraft is the perfect accent for so many occasion cards that we sometimes forget to use.  So, since I am working on Father’s Day cards, (I know you are envious that I am working so far ahead!), I decided to use my new Great Impressions stamp with my new beautiful Designer Series Paper Parisian Breeze Specialty and one of my favorite sketches and some kool kraft paper and cross this one off my list!  And I’ve got to admit that I just love the results!  I used five different paper patterns and colored, clear embossed and cut out this cute image and popped it up as the focal point.  I hope you like it too.

Happy Easter Flower Pot – TLC215, BVC09

Look at this cute little flower pot card!  Today’s Technique Lovers Challenge included a tutorial by Stephanie Luman for this card sketch and I had so much fun “picking my bouquet” for my design.  I admit I worked on it all day and enjoyed building the pot to fit a standard A2 envelope.  Visit the SCS gallery and check out all the cute “pots.”  I’ve included a pic of the finished card and the insert.

The sentiments are two of the Plain Jane singles from Verve Stamps.  They are only $3 each and give a super crisp clean image.  Love the Martha Stewart butterfly punch and all my bug die cut flowers.

This is the most important week in the life of a Christian – when eternal life was secured for all who believe, through the ultimate sacrifice by the Lamb of God.  I pray that you are rejoicing in this wonderful gift.

Butterfly Birthday - LSC213

Well, we’re back from our mini vacation and glad to be home.  We have been visiting our sons in Nashville and Atlanta and had a great time.  It rained everyday in Atlanta so we had to limit our sight-seeing, but did get to visit The Carter Center- President Carter’s Library and Museum and enjoyed it very much.  We hope to be able to visit all the Presidential Libraries in the next couple of years.  We went to President Reagan’s Library in Simi Valley, CA last year and hope to get to the Clinton Library in Little Rock in a month or so.  It’s pretty thrilling to see how these remarkable men lived.

When I checked the SCS challenges I missed, I knew I had to catch up on a few.  I am starting with the Limited Supplies because we were to use Black and White only on our card, and as you know, these are my favorites.  And, I did get to a LSS in Atlanta and was able to find a set I have been wanting- Inkadinkado’s Patterned Bugs and thought the butterflies in flight image would be perfect for my card.  It is similar to the birds in flight image from the Birds Galore set which I also love.

It’s a real simple card, but I had a little trouble stamping the image because I don’t have a big acrylic block.  So I took a CD case apart and used the clear top and it turned out pretty good.  I also used a couple of new MS punches I picked up at Wal-Mart in Atlanta.  Hope you like it!

I hope your week is off to a good start.  I am so excited because my friend Leisa discovered that Michelle Zindorf is coming to Tennessee and was able to secure spots in the beginner and advanced brayer classes for our stampin’ Gang of Four: Leisa, Cleo, Lisa and moi!  We are counting down the days to July 10…….can’t wait.

Sweet Delights - Mojo68 - Poetic Artistry

I love Julee's MojoMonday sketches and her blog is to die for! You must check it out here!!! I played today using a brand spankin' new stamp (for me) from Great Impressions. The sample at my LSS had a lot of tiny glitter on it, but I was a little too lazy to get that fancy. I do love this sketch Julee and will be back next Monday. Mojo Monday has a new home, so if you want to take a look you can click on the logo in my sidebar and get a peak at this spiffy site and the sketch of the week.

Thanks for taking a look and many blessings for new beginnings!

My Favorite Things - Monograms

Today’s SCS Limited Supply Challenge was to use one of our favorite stamps sets, colors and favorite accessories in our creations. I spent the last couple of weeks before Christmas making monogram card sets for my nieces and favorite aunt and this morning decided to play in the challenge and make a set for me. My favorite stamp set changes almost every day, but I just can’t get enough of this monogram set from JustRite. They had a super two for one special just before the holidays, so I bought myself an early Christmas present and sent one to my dear friend Lisa as her gift.

Here’s one card from the set I made this morning, plus a photo of the seven sets I made for gifts. I made two scripture boxes for each set of eight cards (for top and bottom) and the girls just loved them. The top photo shows the complete box. Amber said hers were too pretty to send!

The supplies are very basic: JustRite Special Occasions stamper, Various DSP and cardstock colors, Cuttlebug Dotted Swiss EF, Scallop Circle Punch, Circle Punch and Wal-Mart/SU! Ribbons and Sticky tape.

The box is super easy to make and I will post the instructions soon.

I hope your week has been great and Happy New Year to all! Many blessings, Diane
